FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) - Investigators have identified the man who was shot and killed on Route 24, somewhere between Taunton and Fall River. The victim is 29-year-old Troy Pina of Taunton.
Investigators say Pina was sitting in the passenger seat of a car driving south on Route 24 when he was shot around 1:45 Sunday morning. It's not clear exactly where the shooting took place.
"We believe in the Berkley-Freetown section of Route 24 but we have been pretty broad about it. Between Taunton and Fall River is where we're looking." said Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
The District Attorney's office says someone from another car shot at Pina. Pina was pronounced dead thirty minutes later at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River.
Pina's neighbors weren't home when Eyewitness News visited Barnum Street in Taunton.
Investigators say this is an active homicide investigation. Gregg Miliote from the DA's office said, "This is a busy highway at that time of night, especially with people coming back from Boston. So if anyone saw anything...vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed, anything could assist in this investigation."
