Alice Tavares, 86, of New Bedford died Wednesday July 18, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital.Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Beatriz (Pina) Tavares, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Miss Tavares was formerly employed in several local textile mills until her retirement. Survivors include a brother, James Tavares of Port Orange, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Abilio Tavares. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
