Gomes, 63, of New Bedford, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Mediplex Rehabilitation Hospital after a long courageous battle with ALS. He was the husband of Dorothy A. "Dotty" (Ramos) Gomes. A lifelong New Bedford resident, he was the son of the late Domingo and Rose (Gonsalves) Gomes. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Mr. Gomes was employed at J.C. Rhodes Manufacturing for more than 30 years until its closing. He enjoyed music and singing and spending time with his granddaughters. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Kim M. Rose and her husband, Toriano, of New Bedford; four brothers, William Gomes of Randolph, Alan Gomes of Bridgeport, Conn., John Gomes of Marion and David Gomes of New Bedford; four sisters, Vivian Vieira and Joyce Medina, both of New Bedford, Rosemary Castro of South Dartmouth and Cheryl Walwyn of Walpole; two granddaughters, Brittney Teixeira and Jillian Teixeira, both of New Bedford; an uncle, John Gonsalves of Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be held Friday at a time to be announced in Our Lady of the Assumption Church with burial to follow in St. John Cemetery.
