| Walter J. Cruz | | | NEW BEDFORD — Walter J. Cruz, age 92, of New Bedford died Oct. 30, 2009 at his residence. He was the husband of Eva Maria (Voigtlander) Cruz.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Peter and Marianna (Ramos) Cruz, he was a lifelong resident and a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Mr. Cruz worked as a foreman for Tilcon-Warren Constuction for 40 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II as a Tech Sgt. in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland and was a member of the Cape Verdean and Fairhaven Veterans.
Surviving in addition to his wife: daughter, Sharon Cruz of PA; step-daughters, Cristina M. Sheehan of Duxbury; E. Margarida Piedade of Amherst; E. Doris Panagiotou of Athens, Greece; brother, Julio Cruz of So. Dartmouth; 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Laure Rowell.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at 9:00AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 45 So. Sixth St. New Bedford. Visiting hours Monday 4-7 PM in WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd. Dartmouth.
