Vincent J. Britto - The Providence Journal Obituary


BRITTO, VINCENT J., 78, of Pawtucket Avenue, died Saturday in Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Ernestine (Lopes) Britto. He was born in the Fox Point section of Providence, a son of the late Joao V. and Rufina (Silva) Britto. He was a superintendent of the Parks Department for the City of Providence retiring twenty years ago. He was a retired member of the Laborer's Union Local #1033. He belonged to the Fox Point Boys Club Hall of Fame, and the Cape Verdean Progressive Center in East Providence. Mr. Britto was a Corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving with the 4359th Quarter Master Company in the European Theater. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Besides his wife, he leaves four brothers, Joseph J., John V., Tony J. and Sylvester J. Britto, all of Providence, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary, Louisa, and Francisco ``Chico'' Britto. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 7:45 AM from the PERRY/McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in Our Lady Of The Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence. Entombment will be in Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum, St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours Wednesday 4-8 PM.
