He was the son of the late Fontoura DaCosta -- the Portuguese naval admiral/governor of Cape Verde from 1892-1928 -- and the late Maria A. (Britto) Grace. He was born in New Bedford and lived in the city most of his life. He died at The Oaks Nursing Home. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He was the owner of Toi's Dry Cleaners in New Bedford for many years. Mr. Britto was a lifetime member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association. A 1935 graduate of New Bedford High School, he also graduated from the Army School of Surveys in Ettrics, Va. Mr. Britto served in the Army during World War II in the Middle Eastern Theater-Rome Arno. Survivors include two sons, Anthony F. Britto of Rumford, R.I., and Alan Ramos of San Francisco; three grandchildren, Andrea T. Britto of New Bedford, Brett A. Britto and Dominque M. Britto of Rumford; and four great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Marie A. Watson and brother of the late Paul Grace, Jackie Grace and Domingo Grace. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St. |
