He was the widower of Flora (Andrade) Gomes. Born in Dartmouth, the son of the late Julius and Katie (Pina) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Mr. Gomes was employed as a machine operator at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially Boston Red Sox baseball. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Gomes and his wife, Bonnie, of North Dartmouth; a daughter, Dianne Lopes and her husband Robert of New Bedford; a sister, Angelina Barboza of Boston; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late August Gomes, Alice Gomes, Laura Gomes and Tillie DeCarmo. His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
