Born on Martha's Vineyard, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Adelina (Nunes) Andrada, she came to New Bedford in 1954, then lived in Rhode Island and Pennsylvania before returning to New Bedford in 1981. She was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene in New Bedford. Mrs. Gilmette was a telephone operator for Bell of Pennsylvania for 12 years. Survivors include a son, John J. Fernandes of St. Louis; a daughter, Juanita Goldstein of Langhorne, Pa.; six grandchildren, Lisa Clayton of Levittown, Pa., Christopher Ott of Langhorne, Tevas Cooke of Sunrise, Fla., Amber Achenbach of Oviedo, Fla., John Matthias Fernandes of Sunrise and Joseph Fernandes of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren, Eric Clayton, Cassidy Ott and Andrew Ott; a niece, Eloise Temple of Yorktown, Pa.; and a nephew, Donald Burgo of St. Louis. She was the sister of the late Clotilda Andrade and Louise Burgo. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Arrangements are by Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford. |
