FALMOUTH -- Alice A. "Mother" (Andrade) Gomes, 88, of Falmouth, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Falmouth Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of Peter M. Gomes Sr. 

Born and raised in Dighton, she moved to Falmouth in 1929. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church, East Falmouth. 

For many years, Mrs. Gomes worked as a cook at Camp Edwards, Sheehan's Restaurant and in private residences. She was a past member of the Cape Verdean Club of Falmouth. 

She was known as Mother Gomes by her 13 children and everyone else who knew her. 

Survivors include three sons, Edwin Gomes, Gilbert Gomes and Joseph Gomes, all of Falmouth; six daughters, Ruth Ann Viera, Rosemary Matthews and Mary Jo Nelson, all of Falmouth, Patricia Hilliard of New Bedford, Nadine McCall of Mashpee and Ramona Washington of Dexter, Maine; two brothers, Joseph Andrade of Falmouth and John Andrade of Buzzards Bay; four sisters, Angelina Antone, Mary Rose, Isabelle Andrade and Dorothy Andrade, all of Falmouth; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was the mother of the late Peter M. Gomes Jr., Alice G. Bartrum, Pauline Pratt and Richard Gomes and sister of the late Katherine Andrade. 

Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Anthony's Church, Route 28, with burial to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
