Pires, 90, of New Bedford, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital. Born in Brava, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Isabel (Freitas) and Jose Pires Evaristo, she lived in New Bedford since 1960. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Ms. Pires was employed by Arista Sportswear for several years until her retirement. Survivors include a daughter, Hilda F. DeBarros of New Bedford; three sons, Edward H. Barros and his wife, Alice, of Dartmouth, George H. DeBarros of Seattle, Wash., and Henry P. Barros of Tampa, Fla.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Victor DeBarros and sister of the late Evaristo Pereira, Piadorria DaRosa and Edward Pereira. Her funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
