NEW BEDFORD — Isadore "Izzy" Barboza, 79, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at home following a brief illness. He was the widower of Antonia B. "Tanya" (Lopes) Barboza and son of the late Boaventura and Mary "Laura" (Perry) Barboza.

He was born in New Bedford residing here most of his life except for a 3 year period when he resided in New Hampshire.

Mr. Barboza was employed as a longshoreman with Local #1413-1465, New Bedford and Local # 1329, Providence until his retirement.

He was a World War II Army veteran and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Army Of Occupation Medal, Japan. He was a member of Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.

Survivors include his son, Paul Fonseca and his wife, Joselia, of New Bedford; Wakenda "Wendy" Johnson of Hercules, CA, who was like a daughter to him; 2 sisters, Stella DePina of New Bedford and Laura Baptiste of Taunton; 2 grandchildren, Livia and Lucas Fonseca; nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George, John, Manuel, Bonaventura "Benny" Barboza and Lucy Fonseca.
