Barros, 84, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Oak Hill Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Winifred C. (Freeman) Barros.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., the son of the late John and
Carolina (DosSantos) Barros, he lived in the city for many years. He had lived
in East Providence for the past 37 years. Mr. Barros was
a former caretaker for Congregation Shaare Zedek in Providence for 15 years; he
retired two years ago. Previously, he worked for the Providence Journal Co. for
37 years. He also worked as the New England representative for the Plunkett
Chemical Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a
member of the Seabees, the 113th Construction Battalion.
Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Jean Marie "Gina" Rocha and Anita
C. Wesley, both of Attleboro, Mass., and Roxanne N. DeBritto of East Providence;
three sons, John A. "Chickie" King of East Providence, Robert M. "Lefty" King
and Gershom "George" Barros, both of Providence; 24 grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Richard D. King and brother
of the late Jennie Barros, Caesar Barros, John T. Gonsalves and Jose T.
Gonsalves. His funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the
Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence followed by a
Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. |
