He was the husband of Mary (Duarte) Gomes and son of the late Querino L. and Laura (Jesus) Gomes. Mr. Gomes was born and lived all his life in New Bedford, where he attended Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He worked as a machine operator for Dartmouth Finishing and served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Cape Verdean Ultra Marine Band Club. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin Silva and Allen Lopes, both of New Bedford; three daughters, Irene Gomes, Elaine Goncalves and Loretta Gant, all of New Bedford; a brother, Walter Gomes of New Bedford; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Gomes was the father of the late Caesar "Big Boy" Gomes Jr., and brother of the late Amelia Andrews. Arrangements are by the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. |
