| Adrian J. Gabriel | | | BOSTON — Adrian J. "Tim McCoy" Gabriel, 83, of New Bedford, died September 3, 2009 at Beth Israel Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Arcinia "Isabel" (Lopes) Gabriel.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Seraphim and Jenny (Lopes) Gabriel, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Gabriel was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed with the Steamship Authority for many years until his retirement. He had previously worked in the Merchant Marine.
Mr. Gabriel served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a member of the Merchant Mariners Club, Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association and the 9-18 Golf Club.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda Alves and her husband, Henry of Marshfield and Nicole Weeden of Atlanta; 2 sons, Stephen Gabriel and his wife, Mary Ann of South Weymouth and Michael Lesser of New Bedford; a sister, Bernice Roderick of Pocasset; 2 nieces, Lynn Roderick and Janice Roderiques; a nephew, Paul Gomes; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Adelina Monteiro.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Adrian J. Gabriel's name to the 9-18 Youth Golf Club Program, P.O. Box 51048, New Bedford, MA 02745.
