Joseph Francis DeBoise - Standard-Times Obituary

SOMERSWORTH, N.H. -- Joseph Francis DeBoise, 58, of Somersworth, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 after a brief illness.

Joseph was born in New Bedford, Mass. on June 29, 1948. He was the son of the late Joseph A. and Angela (Britto) De Boise. He was raised in New Bedford and was a New Bedford High School graduate. Mr. DeBoise had been a resident of Somersworth since 1984.

Joe served with the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring as master sergeant. During that time he distinguished himself, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. While with the Air Force, his specialty was administration technician and was assigned to the Chief Administration Division, Special Investigations. Joe saw service in the Philippines, Spain, and five years at the Pentagon and saw duty at Pease Air Base in Newington where he was honorably discharged from the service in November 1987.

During his career in the service, Joseph received many commendations including, The Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross to name a few. He was also an expert marksman in small arms.

After his career with the Air Force, Joseph worked with the US Postal Service from 1987 to 1992.

Mr. DeBoise was very active in veterans' affairs and enlistment personnel. Joseph was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans of Newington, American Legion Post 69 of Somersworth and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a lifetime member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and a lifetime member of the Retired Enlisted Association.

Family members include his wife of 27 years, Martina (Roman) DeBoise; he two daughters, Angela DeBoise of Rochester and Iris DeBoise and her husband, Michael Hannon both of Dover; a brother, Manuel DeBoise of Colorado; a sister, Carol Webb of Woodbridge, VA.; his aunts, Ana Hawkins and Frances Charlton and his uncles, Lee Charlton and Manuel Britto Jr. all of New Bedford; and nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was buried with full military honors with Lee Charlton delivering the eulogy.
