JOHN GRACIA III ![]() NEW BEDFORD - John “Sonny” Gracia III, 59, of New Bedford died Monday, July 18, 2005, at St. Luke’s Hospital following a long illness. Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late John Gracia II and Anna (Texeira) Gracia. He lived in the New Bedford area most of his life and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He was self-employed in the automobile repair business. Mr. Gracia was an Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict, attaining the rank of private. He was awarded them marksman badge with Rifle Bar. He enjoyed socializing at the Band Club and Blue Moon. Survivors include a son, Gary DeCosta of New Bedford; four daughters, Jacqueline Diallo of Providence, and Linda Gracia, Lisa DePina and Carol Kemp, all of New Bedford; a brother, Joseph Gracia and his wife, Anna, of Fairhaven; five sisters, Clara Barboza and Toni Gonsalves, both of Wareham, Eugenia “Jeanne” Hines and her husband, Charles, and Virginia Seeley and her husband, Stevie, all of New Bedford, and Patricia Rivers and her husband, William, of Brockton; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandsons. He was a brother of the late Louis Pina, Anthony Gracia and Eddie Pina, and grandfather of the late Jonathan C. Dos Santos. His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
