KENNETH W. PIRES 


 NEW BEDFORD -- Kenneth W. Pires 55, of Dartmouth died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital, with his family by his side, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Viola (Alves) Pina-Pires. 

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John C. Sylvia and Evelyn C. (Pires) Santos. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. 

 Mr. Pires served in the Army and the Marines during the Vietnam War. He served for 34 years and retired as a staff sergeant. 

 He was a former member of the Cape Verdean Veterans of New Bedford. 

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Kendallee Pires of New Bedford; two stepsons, Tyrone Pina and Chad Pina, both of New Bedford; three sisters, Sandra L. Neves, Marie Maciel and Christine Curhan-Pina, all of New Bedford; two brothers, Michael Pires of Taunton and Glen Curhan of New Bedford; a granddaughter; four brothers-in-law, Frank Pina, Jose Maciel, Paul Alves and Dan Alves; two aunts, Elsie Gracia and Madeline Pires; a son-in-law, Jarred Medeiros; three stepgrandchildren; and a goddaughter and a godson. 

 He was the father of the late Kenneth L. Pires. 

 His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
