LOPES ![]() NEW BEDFORD -- John Anthony Lopes, 52, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at home Tuesday, April 15, 2003. A lifelong New Bedford resident, he was the son of Edward A. Lopes of New Bedford and the late Amelia G. (Vieira) Lopes. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Mr. Lopes worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing for many years. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and loved his family, especially his nieces, nephews and Aunt Ti Ti. Survivors include his father; a brother, Edward Lopes Jr. of New Bedford; three sisters, Beverly Penha and Dorothy Lopes, both of New Bedford, and Jeannette Santos of Marion; three nieces; two nephews; two great-nieces; six great-nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was brother of the late Nancy Lopes and Norman Lopes, and grandson of the late Joao and Gertrude Vieira and August and Eugenia Lopes. His funeral service will be at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. |
