He was the son of Manuel and Shirley (Peters) Soares of New Bedford. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a graduate of New Bedford High School and UMass Dartmouth, where he received a degree in accounting. Mr. Soares served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the Private A. Poirier Post 3260 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his parents; a sister, Donna Rosa of New Bedford; three brothers, Randall Soares and Steve Soares, both of New Bedford and Pastor Manuel Soares Jr. and his wife, Pastor Theressa Soares, of Canton, Ohio; and nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
