Pinto, 68, of New Bedford died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Providence Veterans Administration Hospital after a brief illness. He was the former husband of Amelia (Pritchett) Pinto of Columbus, Ga., and the late Shirley (Fabio) Pinto Daniel. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Edwin and Virginia (Gonsalves) Pinto. He lived in New Bedford most of his life. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, serving four years in the Marine Corps followed by 19 years in Army until he retired in 1977. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Unit, two Overseas Service Bars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and seven Service Stripes. In his retirement, he was employed as a sewing machine repairman in textile mills in Fall River. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531, the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association, the William H. Carney Lodge 200 of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, and the Bisca Tournament Club. Mr. Pinto enjoyed playing cards and fishing, and was a sharp dresser who enjoyed wearing hats. Survivors include his former wife; a son, Mark Pinto of Roswell, Ga.; two daughters, Tracy Cannon and her husband, Kenny, of Duluth, Ga., and Angela Hall and her husband, Ted, of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, David Pinto and his companion, Susan Martin-Oliveira, of New Bedford, and Robert Pinto and his wife, Maria "Bifa," of West Haven, Conn.; two sisters, Phyllis Fernandes and her husband, Richard, of Carver, and Shirley Gomes and her husband, Everett, of New Bedford; two aunts, Mary Hillman and Alice DeCruz, both of New Bedford; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
