He was the widower of Rose Marie (Babbitt) Dias. A lifelong resident of Wareham, he was the son of Frances (Lopes) Santos of Waterbury, Conn., and the late Thomas Dias. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Dudley Brown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2846 in Onset. He was a road construction laborer in the area for many years before retiring. Mr. Dias was a member of the coaching staff of the Wareham High School varsity and freshman basketball teams. He was also a basketball coach for the Junior Basketball Association in Wareham for more than 30 years. He was well known on athletic fields and courts, having coached football, Little League baseball and basketball in the Wareham community. Survivors include his mother; three sons, Dr. Antone Dias Jr. of Framingham, Michael A. Dias of Carver and Paul Roman Dias of Wareham; a daughter, Rosemarie Dias of Wareham; a brother, Robert Fernandez of Waterbury, Conn.; his companion, Eleanor "Nan" Correia of East Wareham; a son-in-law, Cecile "Tex" Johnson of Wareham; a daughter-in-law, Fran Dias of Mashpee; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Norman E. Dias and brother of the late John Fernandez. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church, 82 High St. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
