He was the husband of Maria (Britto) Almeida. Born in Pawtucket, R.I., he was the son of the late Marcos and Julia (Cruz) Almeida. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He was a retired Merchant Marine seaman who served on various cargo ships during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Almeida was a 32nd degree Mason; past master and life member of Union Lodge 4, F&A of New Bedford; St. Phillips Chapter 3, Holy Royal Arch Mason of Boston; The Holy Sepulcher Consistory 17, Boston; and the Syria Temple 13, Shrine, Boston. He was also the past president/treasurer and life-time member of the Merchant Mariners Social Club Inc. Survivors include his widow; a granddaughter, Yvonne Mendes of New Bedford; a sister, Amelia Evora of New Bedford; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Raymond Almeida and brother of the late Peter Almeida and Joseph Almeida. His funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, followed by burial in St. John Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. |
