The Cape Friends of Calligraphy was started in 1984 by a small group of people interested in promoting the art of beautiful writing.
The CFC has grown steadily since then in the fulfilment of the aims decided upon at its first public meeting. These are as follows: To promote and encourage an enthusiasm for, and interest in calligraphy. To provide opportunities for the above aim to be realised through the regular organisation of meetings, seminars and workshops. To produce regular publications in the form of a Bulletin & Newsletters in order to promote the above aims. The CFC invites anyone interested in lettering and writing design to join. There are no requirements regarding skill or experience. Membership is open to all. We have always based our activities firmly on friendship: we retain a strong commitment to that part of our title. We have links with other calligraphic groups and societies within South Africa and overseas. We have always based our activities on friendship and maintain a strong commitment to that part of our title.
