Captain Cook Memorial, Canberra Commemorating Captain Cook's discovery of the east coast of Australia in 1770, the Memorial Jet is one of Canberra's most visible attractions and is found in Lake Burley Griffin (named after the Canberra's designer). It was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on the bicentenary of Captain Cook's voyage in HMS Beagle. When opeating at full capacity, the jet reaches a maximum height of 147 metres. About six tonnes of water is in the air at any one moment. The bronze globe Memorial in the foreground depicts Cook's various journeys from England, some of them seemingly quite random (lost?!) sailings! Intersection of Goodwill Bridge and Captain Cook Bridge
The Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that travels under the Captain Cook Bridge. That is the subject of this image to a certain degree, but it was also an experiment in manual exposure. This is a high dynamic range panorama consisting of one row of 14 images. Each image consists of five exposures of 2, 5, 10, 45 and 70 seconds.
