Newfoundland of the Month!

January 2012

Beanie

Where does one start? This little Newf pup has been a Godsend addition to our "pack". The personality she possesses is hard to describe other than the fact that she is fearless with her two seven year old Great Pyreness brothers and her nine year old Samoyed sister. With Chief being handicapped and basically confined to a wheelchair during their outside romps, she plays carefully and tenderly with Chief.

On the other hand, she is a terrorist with the other two. A comedy show in action, her play time is phenomenal. She truly has a very well balanced grasp of life in general and is a superbly lovable and affectionate pup. She strives to please in everything she does. Beanie cuddles with all three of her "brothers and sister" but Mr. Chief has got to be her favorite. When I say favorite, Beanie is always found "spooning" with Chief, laying over the top of him, half under him and tucked right against him. Chief's personality appears to be complete as he's got this little girl to watch out for. Mealtimes are hilarious as we feed the Honest Kitchen dehydrated raw diet along with fresh raw meats and fish at every meal. When portioning out their meal, Beanie sits patiently waiting for her dinner. When I start to mix water with her meal, she will leave the room in search of Robbin, who is usually at the opposite end of the house. As soon as she gets Robbin's attention, she makes a beeline right back to her spot for dinner. If Robbin doesn't appear in the room right away, off she goes to get her and then is right back alongside me!

Beanie is far more wonderful than we could possibly have imagined! Years ago I had raised two Newfies and fallen in love with their demeanor and personality, typical of the superb breed that they are. This little girl exemplifies everything that I had come to expect and more. She can be a handful at times but one has to expect that as a giant breed transitions through puppyhood and the juvenile months. Corrections are easy as just a stern look is all it takes for her to know that certain roughness and behaviors are not acceptable. She possesses a great thought process, in fact, sits there and thinks about what she's going to do next....you can almost see the "wheels" turning in her head! I attribute that to her being co-raised by my two Great Pyrenees brothers. I give Canine Acres a lot of credit for the proper acclimation during the first few critical weeks of a pups life. It shows tremendously in raising a well behaved and "comfortable" puppy. She is a happy little soul and projects that to all she meets and she has truly been a little celebrity wherever she goes with us. She is far more than I could ever have hoped for and is truly well on her way to holding that cherished position of being a "Heart Dog". One who's personality can instantly win over any human. Only when a human can truly open their hearts to a pup can you feel the depth of the unspoken communication....she's got it!

We are very happy to anounce that  "Our Sweet Shanna"  has been adopted and will be going to her new home in April 2009.   Congratulations to the Benninger Family, I know you will give Shanna a wonderful home.

Update!
She is doing great!  We have two female golden retrievers, 5 and 10 years old, and she has fit right into the “gang”.  We walk our dogs at least twice a-day and Shanna has become so accustomed to the routine that she now starts to “ask” for a walk whenever our routine varies even slightly.
