Q: Who may volunteer at Candalaria Elementary? A: Any interested parents, relatives, and community members are welcome to volunteer at Candalaria. Q: What are the qualifications for becoming a volunteer? A: The only qualification for becoming a volunteer is to have an interest in becoming a part of our educational community. Confidentiality and dependability are, of course, also important when it comes to volunteering. Q: In what capacities can people volunteer? A: There are many ways to volunteer at Candalaria. They include: listening to students read, reading to students, helping students with math activities, helping students with computer activities, helping teachers with classroom needs, helping with PTA activities, library/media assistance, field trips, track club, and helping with fundraising activities throughout the year. Q: Are there special requirements for Candalaria volunteers? A: To help protect the safety and welfare of our students, the Salem-Keizer Public School District conducts criminal history checks on all volunteers who work with or around school children. Criminal history checks must be completed through the Salem-Keizer School District, verification from any other source will not be accepted. Additional information can be found at the School District website. Q: What are the steps to registering as a volunteer? A: 1) Contact our school office. They will provide you with a Criminal History Check Packet and a privacy envelope. 2) Complete the packet and return it in the privacy envelope. Please ensure that all sections of the form are accurate and complete. If your application requires further evaluation, you will be mailed a letter explaining the next steps in the approval process. 3) Although the District makes every effort to process packets in a timely manner, the process can take several weeks, so be sure to register early. Please check back after three weeks to see if your packet has been processed. |
