Kiva Fellows


Overview:

The Kiva Fellows program offers individuals a rare opportunity to travel abroad and work directly with a partner microfinance institutions (MFI) for 10 weeks to one year.  You will be the key link between Kiva, the microfinance institutions and the entrepreneurs - chronicling the lives of the working poor and assisting the microfinance instituations to maximize their relationship with Kiva.  
 
Fellowships are available in: Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) and the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA).
 
Qualifications:
  • Fluent language skills (if required for host MFI) in Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese/Mandarin, Cebuano, Dari, French, Hindi, Khmer, Mongolian, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian, Sinhalese, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Tamil, Urdu, Vietnamese
  • Backgrounds in economics, finance, consulting and international development
  • Overseas experience, ideally in a developing country
  • Excellent writing abilities, knowledge of various web applications, problem solving skills, a high level fo self-motivation and the ability to fundraise for their trip

Kiva Translators



Overview:
 
The Kiva Translation Program offers the opportunity to use your skills to make a direct contribution, improve language skills, network with other Kiva volunteers and build your resume.

Volunteering from their own homes, Kiva volunteers translate entrepreneurs' profiles into English, which are then posted for funding at Kiva.org.
 
Qualifications:
  • High-level proficiency in a foreign language
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Ability to committ to two hours per week for three months as a volunteer
  • Check email frequently and comfortable using new technology
