1017days since
time to go camping!

We went campin!

The weekend campout has come and gone,
The gear is packed and stored,
Once again we're back at work
And now I'm kinda bored...

I hope everyone had a great time at Ocracoke. I know Kaiden and I did. I want ot give a big "THANK YOU" to Diane for putting this together. I got to meet some great people and had a really good time.

I hope we can all do something like this again!

Dates:

Friday, May 29th
Saturday, May 30th
Sunday, May 31st

Location:

Ocracoke Camp Ground, Ocracoke Island - Outer Banks.

Directions to the Outer Banks -

For those of us coming from the Hampton Roads area, below are directions for the best route to the Outer Banks.

Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, Va. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway.* Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South.

NC-12 South will take you down the Outer banks. After crossing the Oregon Inlet bridge you will be on Hatteras island. Continue South and you will eventually hit the Hatteras island ferry to Ocracoke. This ferry is free and does not require a reservation to ride. It is the only ferry to Ocracoke that is free and requires no reservations. Once on the island, continue driving south on NC-12, Ocracoke Campground will be on your left a few miles down the road.

This Map details the route described above.

For those of you who want to program your GPS, The physical location of the campground is below:

4352 Irvin Garrish Highway
Ocracoke, NC 27960

Be advised that most GPS units will try to route you down one of the major interstates and take you to the island via one of the southern ferries.

The NC-12 route is the favored route by most frequent island visitors from the north. It is scenic and a pleasant drive - though it can be crowded on weekends (especially during tourrist season). If you do take the NC-12 route, you will pass through Kitty Hawk, NC - The birthplace of powered flight and right by the spot where the Wright Brothers flew the very first powered aircraft in the world!

If you are not taking the NC-12 route, you will need to make reservations on one of the other ferries. Below is the link to the NCDOT ferry system webpage.

NCDOT - Ferry Reservations & Information. Please see the attached PDF file below for the Ferry Schedule for all of the NC Ferries.

*Chesapeake Expressway is a toll-road which costs $2.00 each way.
