Welcome to Ms. Campbell's English Class!
This course contains a collection of selected readings that is a diverse mix of genres, organized by theme and skill set. Possible reading standards to be addressed in this class are analysis of character, themes, literary devices, point of view, and structure of a variety of genres. Writing standards that we will focus on will allow students to establish a thesis, develop assertions, integrate quotations and citations into text, and learn revision techniques. The writing strand guides students step-by-step through the writing process, from pre-writing strategies through expository essays, narratives, description and argumentation.
Assessment and Grading Policy
Assessment is done primarily through essays, homework, quizzes, tests, timed writing, participation and projects. Students are expected to be active participants in discussions and group work. Rubrics are used for scoring essays. All essays must be revised unless they are timed writing pieces. Independent book reports are due every three weeks. Students must come to class with an independent reading book daily.
Grading Scale
A 90-100%
B 80-89%
C 70-79%
F 0-69%
Late Work Policy
Please note that late work will absolutely not be accepted unless the student has an excused absence. If the student has an excused absence, it is his or her responsibility to find out the work they have missed and to turn it in the next school day. If an absence is unexcused, students will not receive credit for assignments due on that day. It is the student's responsibility to find out the work they have missed and to quickly arrange a time with me to make up quizzes, tests, or writing assignments.
