This is an unusual French Stereo camera, made by Simda in 1955. Although it is accepted as a 16mm camera, it actually took Standard-8 cine film which, when used in a cine camera, is run through the camera twice, then split down the middle to make two 8mm images. The Panorascope uses the full 16mm width of the film and obviously only runs it through the camera once. There were two versions. The first was covered in black leather and had twin Roussel lenses. The later version, shown here, is covered in a more attractive grey leather and features Angenieux lenses. It is thought that less than 2,500 were made. Return to home page |
