The Diax range of 35mm cameras was made by Diax-Kemera-Werk in Germany, beginning in 1947. The Diax Ia appeared in 1952 and was distinguished by having three viewfinders for 35mm, 45-50mm and 90mm lenses. The Diax Ib which followed it was similar but with a lever wind film advance in place of a knob. The Diax IIb was similar again, with a lever wind in place of the knob found on the Diax IIa. Both cameras sacrificed one of their viewfinder windows to allow for a coupled rangefinder. The two viewfinders left were for 50mm and 85-90mm lenses. Seen here is a Diax Ia (left) with its 35mm wideangle lens and a Diax IIb with the standard 50mm lens and rare turret viewfinder. Also pictured above are the 90mm and 135mm lenses, plus a Diax lens hood. Return to home page |
