Who Are we?

Cambridge Volunteers in Nepal, or CVN for short, is a group of Cambridge University students who have previously volunteered in Nepal and who wish to continue sending student volunteers to teach in the same schools each summer. We do this because we love Nepal and want to continue helping by letting Nepal inspire more people!

We are not a gap year organisation: we are a democratic student group who take no money for arranging the placements, but are just the link to facilitate the teacher placements and help advise and prepare the volunteers.

CVN has been sending volunteers to teach in Nepal for about ten years.

How does it work?
  • We send volunteers in two six week shifts, in the first or second half of the summer vacation.
  • Volunteers can teach English and many other subjects at either Hinduvidyapeeth (HVP) Central or HVP-Dang.
  • Teaching is individually at Central or in pairs at Dang.
  • Volunteers live together at the school.
  • You need no formal teaching qualifications to volunteer.
  • The volunteers can offer fun, enthusiastic and varied lessons as a contrast to some of the normal textbook teaching. How you teach is up to you!
  • The placement can be daunting, hard work and challenging but also very rewarding.
