Runners Up at Redingensians

posted 22 Feb 2010 12:38 by Camberley Kinders

As you know, on Sunday the Black squad travelled to the Redingensians festival. The format was different to previous festivals as we played in a league format with medals for the top 2 teams and of course, a trophy for the winning team. This differed to other tournaments where we play 2 pools and then semi finals, finals etc.

There were six teams in the Under 7’s age group; Farnham, Reading Abbey, Bracknell, Redingensians , Redingensians B and Camberley.

Our results were as follows;

  • Farnham draw 4-4.
  • Abbey lost- 3-4
  • Redingensians won 5-2
  • Redingensians B won 6-1
  • Bracknell won 6-5

This placed us at 2nd in the league on 7 points, Farnham won with 8 and Bracknell 3rd with 6. It was a great tournament and the excitement came to a head with our final match against Bracknell; lose or draw and we finish 3rd, win and finish 2nd and receive medals. Add to this that we were convincingly beaten by Bracknell in a pre- Christmas friendly, we were truly the underdogs. This victory almost felt as good as winning the tournament.

All of the players on the day were fantastic; Hannah, Tom and Joshua Lovell -Smith appearing for the first time in the Black squad acquitted themselves very well. Every single player in the squad had a moment to be proud of and the support was also fantastic.

We wish both Joshua Palmer and Hannah a speedy recovery.  Joshua limped off the final game and Hannah has probably woken up this morning with a shiny black eye, we look forward to seeing you back at training.

So far this season the Blacks have been in 3 tournaments; Cobham- winners, Camberley- runners up and now Redignesnians- runners up. We have played approximately 15 matches in these tournaments and have only been beaten twice. This is a great record and bodes well for the future.

Camberley U7s Golds Win Plate

Our three teams gave their all last weekend at the Camberley Festival with the Golds coming away with more silver to add to the success of the Golds at Cobham. The Blacks achieved another final losing out 5-4 to Sutton having drawn with them in the first round earlier in the day. The Golds won the plate competition and really deserved more. It was very encouraging to see them work as a team and it could be argued that the teamwork was an inspiration to the other two teams and the photos go to show the effort displayed by them all. Well done to all the teams.

Camberley U7s win at Cobham A Festival

The Blacks arrived at Cobham A Festival well prepared but not too sure of what lay ahead of them as this was their first encounter in a tournament. They need not have worried although the only nerves were clearly felt by the coaches and parents and the boys just went out to enjoy themselves. Enjoy themselves they did storming to victory in Pool B winning their two matches against Brighton and Chobham. They then beat Battersea in the Semi Final and faced Brighton again in the final drawing 5 - 5. The result was called as "Joint Winners" however, we had already beaten them in the Pool stage and so our young team can feel justly proud to remain unbeaten throughout the day and they now look forward to their next tournament. Well done lads!
