Welcome to the Calvary Build website. Calvary United Methodist Church has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area to build a house on Woodbine Street in the uptown section of Harrisburg PA. The funds have been raised and groundbreaking took place on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. After many delays in obtaining the necessary city approvals and permits, construction finally began. Construction continues to proceed at an exceedingly slow pace with some delays dues to the unusal weather patterns this year as well as other delays unrelated to the weather. The picture below was taken on January 15, 2012.

Progress continues at an extremely slow pace. The roof is shingled. The walls are wrapped. The front porch is on and porch floor concrete has been poured. The first floor windows and two of the three front doors have been installed. None of the windows or doors have been installed in the rear yet.

Weather has continued to seriously slow progress. Early last week the entire roof was finally completed. The tri-plex has been wrapped which adds a great deal of protection to the structure from the rain and elements. Plans to pour concrete for the front porch were called off today due to the rain. The plan now is to complete the concrete on Friday of this week and good weather is expected. Work continues on construction of the interior of the structure, including stairwells and framing. Next in line will be the windows and siding which are scheduled to be completed by the first week of November. Look for volunteer oportunities shortly.

In the dry days of July we have been able make some headway and are now completing the backfill, plumbing and ...
