Homework Suggestions

KS3 Students can benefit from studying the world around them as well as working from secondary sources (books, other people's photographs and artwork).
All the work that students complete over the the two year GCSE course and the AS level course can be entered as part of their coursework.

Drawing is an essential part of recording the visual world and expressing how individuals feel about what they see. There is a difference between using primary source material (drawing and taking photographs of real objects, portraits, landscapes) and secondary source material (drawing from or using the photographs or artwork produced by other people).

This is a simple list of objects and suggestions for drawing Primary Source material:

1) Fruit and vegetables - both whole and halved:   Oranges, apples, cauliflowers, cucumbers, tomatoes.

2) Kitchen implements:   Saucepans, can opener, cups, bottles.

3) Hair related objects:   Hairdryer, hair products (shampoo bottles, tubes), hair grips, brush, razor.

4) Tools:    Spanner, hammer, screwdriver, monkey wrench, drill.

5) A small part of  a fir cone, shell, interesting pebble, or bark

6) A close up of the stitching and details from a bag.

7) A part of a house plant.

8) Your hand holding an object.

9) A thick piece of rope

Secondary Source materials could include:

Collections of postcards, photocopies from books of photographs or illustrations.

Drawings and collages from the above.

Using a range of materials will consolidate skills and encourage students to experiment.

Suggested media for drawing:   A range of pencils 2B - 6B, fine pens, ball point pens, charcoal, pencil crayons, chalk, oil pastels.
