This is not a poem: What is a poem? A poem, you tell me, has form. Has rules. Has function. The rules for a poem are that It’s gotta have a structure, rhythm, flow and even have metaphors embedded in it. I can’t help but take a look at all the “poems” I’ve written over the years and realize one thing: they aren’t poems. I am not a poet. So what about the words that are bursting out of my mind and begging to be jotted down on some scrap paper? How can I jot whenever inspiration strikes, knowing it will never be seen as I intended? The one thing I do know is that these words can not sit in my mind forever. They have a short shelf-life. |
