Prospective Undergraduate Research Volunteers

Do you Want to Gain Research Experience?

We are always looking for motivated undergraduate and post-undergraduate students (post-bacs) wanting to study and research of variety of aspects of the behavioral and social sciences. Much of our research could be of interest to students wishing to pursue graduate work in a variety of fields, such as clinical, developmental, cognitive and social psychology areas, social work, counseling, and medicine. Students in the CAIP Lab receive extensive research and clinical training in diagnostic and treatment protocols for specific psychological conditions in childhood and adolescence, namely social anxiety in teenagers.  Students also may receive training in comprehensive and longitudinal assessments of normative psychological phenomena, such as parent-child relationship characteristics, parental monitoring, and parent-child discrepancies in perceptions of everyday events.  If you are interested in attaining research experience, please send an email to Dr. Andres De Los Reyes (Lab Director) with a copy of a completed volunteer application, and Dr. De Los Reyes will contact you to arrange an appointment to either meet in person or over the phone.

Please note that a minimum 2 semester commitment of 10 hours per week is required, as is availability to assist on assessments conducted over the weekend (NOTE: CAIP Lab makes exceptions for weekend availability based on religious observances).

At the Comprehensive Assessment and Intervention Program (CAIP), we conduct clinic-based research trying to understand the best ways to assess and treat behavioral and emotional problems in children and adolescents.

We have a project that just started for which we very much need assistance on the weekends.
Training to assist in weekend assessments may begin immediately during weekdays.

Current studies:

  • Clinic-based study testing new ways of assessing social anxiety symptoms in adolescents.
  • Community based study on parent/child relationships, conflict, parental monitoring and delinquent behavior in families with adolescent and pre-adolescent children.
Duties Include:
  • Recruiting and assisting in the completion of assessments for the study (e.g., Explaining study to participants, supervising their completion of assessments, conducting interviews and administering tasks on the computer).
  • Managing data collection (entering data using statistical software)
  • Assisting with administrative duties at CAIP
  • Assistance on weekends, with training at regular intervals during the week.Meetings:
  • Volunteers will have weekly meetings with Dr. Andres De Los Reyes (Director of CAIP) and weekly meetings with the graduate students who are coordinating the projects
Skills:
Volunteers will be trained on tasks related to the study. We expect volunteers to commit to a minimum of 9 hours a week working on the study. This weekly commitment consists of 1/2 time assisting in participants completing studies and 1/2 time assisting in work related to the functioning of the CAIP lab, including weekly meetings.
