Cindy Blackstock on CBC's The Current: First Nations Children Receiving Unequal Funding For Child Welfare
From CBC Radio, The Current, Monday November 23, 2009 Child Welfare - Native Kids There are fewer government dollars for child welfare for first nation's children than for other kids. About 1 in 200 non-aboriginal children is under state care compared to 1 in 10 aboriginal children. We ask why the discrepancy in funding? Caring Across the Boundaries is an interactive workshop that facilitates collaboration between First Nations child and family services agencies and the voluntary sector. The program was developed based on research which found that First Nations children and youth on reserve have almost no access to the broad range of prevention and quality of life services provided by the voluntary sector.
