Hi everyone & a Happy New Year! We are starting our cafe sci meetings next week on Monday 9th January 2012. We will meet from 7pm for a 7:30pm start in the Union Hotel, Chapel Street, Penzance. The talk is... Geothermal energy - the
options
Our speaker, Robert Pine was the head of Camborne School of Mines (2002-2008) and
saw the transition of CSM from Pool to Tremough during this period, including
the start-up of the Renewable Energy group and degree programme.
Prior to joining CSM in 1985 he worked for 4 years on the "Hot Rocks" project
near Penryn. He is a civil engineer with a broad range of interests
in civil and mining engineering. He is now semi-retired and continues to
lecture at CSM.
He will give a broad introduction of the available options for
geothermal energy use, including: natural geothermal systems (e.g.
Iceland), heating and cooling using ground source heat pumps (e.g.
anywhere, including Cornwall) and enhanced geothermal systems / hot dry rock
(e.g. hot granites such as in Cornwall). Hope to see you there! Louise |
