Christian Aid Fundraising: Results for 2010

We are pleased to report that fundraising from Christian Aid events in 2010 resulted in a contribution to the Church Partnership Scheme of over £10,000. As we had pledged money in advance to a project supporting a farming community in Burkina Faso, this was quadrupled by matching funding from the EU.

The graph in the attachment shows the progress made since an informal group of churches first got together in 1997 to expand the long-established Meopham Christian Aid sponsored walk into a Deanery event. From 2009 we added a Quiz Aid evening and in 2010 also benefitted from a collection made at the “Chorus of Praise” concert by church choirs from the Hartley area held in June. Funds were also boosted by a generous donation of £1,000 from the Gravesham Christian Aid Group.

All three events in 2010 attracted more than 100 people of all denominations and non-churchgoers. For the second year running we were unable to find a venue big enough to cope with the demand for Quiz tickets, while walk sponsor money reached a new record level. Matched walk sponsorship  of over £2,000 from Microsoft once again boosted revenue considerably. The event series was brought to a close most appropriately  by the combined choirs of Hartley singing the Hallelujah Chorus!

Cumulative funds raised since 1997 are now almost £65,000 – all of which we know goes to a good cause. With the support of the local community we hope to continue to build up our activities in 2011. This year's sponsored walk will take place on Saturday 14 May. Quiz Aid is planned for September, when we hope to use the refurbished St John’s church in Meopham as our venue.
