The Arkansas Department of Education divides the requirements for physical education into two strands:

Physical Education and Leisure

This strand includes motor skills and movement patterns, health related fitness, lifetime sports and recreation, and personal/social behavior.

Health and Wellness

This strand includes human growth and development, disease prevention, community health and promotion, healthy life skills, alcohol & tobacco, personal health and safety, and nutrition.
