I had to go to the Appletree Medical Group clinic on Merivale Road near Meadowlands Drive in Nepean because of a painful infection in my left eye. On the way out, with my good eye, I noticed that two Ottawa Police Service Ford Crown Victoria cruisers were blocking the southbound lanes of Merivale, and two policemen were diverting traffic onto Meadowlands. At the next set of traffic lights south, with the entrances to 1600 Merivale Road (the shopping/office building with Blockbuster Video and Swiss Chalet) and Merivale Place (the strip mall with HMV and Winners, as well as the Beer Store in the parking lot), the centre lamppost was down, and a Frito-Lay Doritos truck was parked just south of it. The power line to the lamppost and the centre traffic light was folded down into a V crossing both sides of Merivale Road and would have to be removed by Ottawa Hydro before traffic could pass through again. I have no idea if it's the Doritos truck that was the instigator, or whether it was sideswiped by another vehicle, but the driver was out of the cab and talking to police, so, as far as I could tell, there were no injuries.
