I was sitting here trying to keep my eyelids from crashing down and sending me into a sleepy oblivion, when I suddenly got the urge to update my website. It has been a LONG time since my last update and I am woefully overdue.
I can’t believe how tired I seem to be all the time nowadays. Maybe it’s the holidays, or the grey-white, lifeless landscape outside my window, that has the sandman hovering over my shoulder all the time. Maybe it’s just me getting older. Who knows?
I was lucky to spend some quality time with my children over the Christmas holiday and it made me realize something amazing. Being around my children and their friends makes me feel young again. Sometimes when it happens, I regress so much I become the young man I once was. I revert to the over the top, make em’ laugh, fool and jester that used to embarrass himself on a regular basis. It is truly a miracle to “find” that inner child even though it drives my wife crazy sometimes. This is where being a father of three definitely has its advantages.
My oldest one tells me I embarrass her, more than myself, and she is probably right. My middle one tolerates my shenanigans and even occasionally goads me on. My youngest child steps right in beside me, and embraces the moment; no matter how long or short it ends up being. It is amazing and beautiful at each level but at the same time sad to know that one day, when they are out of the house, it will all stop.
It is said that youth is wasted on the young. I thought so too for a while. I now think otherwise. I believe it is exactly where it should be. Our maker put it in the best vehicle it could be in. Young ones are highly portable, resilient, mobile, and nearly indestructible. What better package to wrap something as important as youth in? They are the perfect “battery”, if you will? All you have to do is “plug” them in to any situation and they fill it up with light, energy, and laughter. They are a gift to their parents, grandparents, and to the world as a whole. At least for a short time, whenever they are around, they bring sustaining energy back to us. They wake us up and we get to play with them, for a little while longer, in the warmth of youth.
God bless the boundless energy of youth.
Happy New Year!
That's enough tripe for this week. Grrr...
