Reflections of Bedford

Created by artist Rick Kirby and named 'Reflections of Bedford' then planted in the public domain by Bedfordshire Borough Council. In my view there is nothing about these faces that remotely reminds me of the multi cultural, happy, diverse and interesting town named Bedford. Further, these unsmiling images must surely have been made to rest up against a building not dumped at the entrance to Silver Street like this. The awful flat back of steel sheets is simply a reminder to us all of the terrible abuse that is often made of public money by public bodies. I want to know if those who made the decision to purchase this monstrosity had actually seen what they were buying first. Sorry Mr Kirby, this is not how Bedford should be depicted, you're having a laugh, all the way to the bank! This should be removed and replanted immediately outside Borough Hall, where it may be appreciated more by those who bought it, and seen less by the public who paid for it out of our taxes

OAW Radical Makeover

The Project Runway inspired jewelry challenge for this week was taken from Season 2 Episode 9. We were asked to take a piece of unfinished work, existing or vintage store bought or scraps and re work it into a new piece. This ring never worked, I couldn't figure out how to finish it, what to add to make that arch work and it's been sitting on my bench for months. I thought maybe this half lentil shape might work too. This is just dried slip left in the bottom of the container that I fired to add to the scrap pile but then decided it was interesting enough to keep.
