Intial Screening

The goal of the initial screening process is to assist the classroom teacher in providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for all children.   The screenin provides assessment and parent information ot help the classroom teacher plan a more effective, child centered learning environment.  As a result, the teacher can develop an appropriate program, paying special attention to multiple developmental levels and learing styles.

Please keep in mind that the screening process helps teacher identify those academic skills related to reading, writing, and math success.  The screening IS NOT a measure of intelligence, but is a relaxed and informal tool used to identify developmental strengths, needs, and learning styles as children enter school.

What can a parent do to prepare his/her child for the screening experience?
The Kindergarten teachers at Sycamore Creek Elementary recommend these helpful hints:
  • Early to bed
  • Eat a well-balanced breakfast
  • Send your special person off with a BIG hug
  • Arrive to the classroom on time
Please remember the teacher is welcoming several children on that day so it is appreciated if any questions parents may have are limited.  Our focus needs to be on the children and making them feel comfortable.
We are looking forward to a very positive screening experience with your child.
 Thank you for understanding!
