Reunion
Information
=========== You will find under reunion information a flyer advertising the 10th annual Akron Ohio reunion. Submitted by Mike Fleming. ===================== An interesting comment please read. I didn't even notice went I went by my old workplace Monday that the sign was gone. Then I saw your website today with the pictures. I started at the York terminal in 77 and was there in 95 when closed it up as a breakbulk and they shipped the vast majority of us to Carlisle where I was at in 2002 when they closed the doors. 25 cold winters I worked for CF with a almost frostbitten face to prove it. We use to be able to guess how cold a day it was by spitting on the metal trailer floor and seeing how fast it froze or by the ice on our beards. The old timers at the York Terminal told me when I first started there in 77 that it was a Motor Cargo Terminal with a Indian Head sign along the road in front of the office and a Motor Cargo tractor trailer sign along I83. When CF bought the place they painted the sign to look like a CF tractor trailer. The neon bulbs were taken off as they had big plans to fix the sign when it stopped working. They were put into a junk trailer with a big sign on the front not to be moved but one of the jockeys moved it anyways (couldn't read?) and broke all of the neon tubes. Many a 3rd shift night I used to glance outside from the side of the dock and see the neon wheels turning on the sign. I hope the sign gets fixed up so I can see it again working with the neon wheels turning like they use to. I just retired from ABF with 31 years on the dock between the two companys when I could get the 30 years and age 55 deal from the Reading Teamsters Pension fund with no penalty's. Have a good one. Keith Shaub 318 Liberty Drive Shippesnburg PA 17257 ================= Thanks to Mike Fleming for another great photo. =============== Donald Lucas took photos of the CF sign that was recently featured in Wheels of Time. This sign is on a flat bed truck near Edgerton Missouri. -------------------------------- To see a tribute to the trucking industry, click on the link below. Thanks for the heads up. ----------------- A Must Read Hi Butch, been really busy, but thought I’d better drop you a line. Had our CF/Motor Cargo reunion on Sept 17th, had 193 attend. I want to thank you for running your website. A fellow with the American Truck Historical Society found my name on your website after goggling Motor Cargo. His name is Tom Mullins and he lives in New Castle, Pa. He’s associated with the Historical Society and we had a nice long chat. He was interested in the history of Motor Cargo and CF. I guess you know that the large sign that was in York, Pa. was donated to the Society by the new property owner. That sign sat atop a building facing I-83 and had neon outlines and neon revolving wheels. There was one just like it in Richfield for years, but someone in our illustrious management team made a decision to have it taken down and taken out back and buried. Anyway there are some pictures of the sign and it’s transport in the latest edition of “Wheels of Time”. The Society is going to have the sign restored, CF on one side and Motor Cargo on the other and then display it at the Society’s museum in Kansas City. Pretty cool….I’ve included a picture of one of the prizes that we raffled off at the reunion. It’s a set of twin forty footers with tandem dolly and a 36 series tractor that had a V-12 engine. We used to pull these back and forth between Richfield and Chicago until the early 1970’s. Take care and keep up the good work, a lot of people appreciate your efforts. Mike Fleming Akron/TO PS. I’ve included some pictures of both signs, the one in black and white was the one in Richfield. | Mark your calendar for the 8th Annual Reunion September 9, 2012. =================
