Ancient Egypt was not a great militaristic or trading empire.  They were mostly formed because of their great agriculture.  The rich silt brought from the Nile and the flooding that comes from it as well.  This rich land creates a wonderful farming area.  The land was exploited and Egypt soon became the Mediterranean Sea's bread basket.  It had almost all of its food within its borders and therefore the empire became strong from trading revenues.  The empire sponsored its army and it pharaoh's mass building projects for its temples and other such monuments.  If you look back on the Egyptian Empire you will see how the Nile gives Egypt life and this life carries over to wealth to all of their citizens, making Egypt one of the greatest Empires ever.
