The redbox Automated Convenience Store - USA Client: McDonald's Corporation In 2002-2003, objet designed, prototyped, and fabricated the redbox Automated Convenience Store and MovieMat Movie Rental Kiosk, for the McDonald's Corporation. McDonald's Corporate had gathered an international team of some of their best business minds to create a think-tank posed with the task of coming up with new business ventures. The group came up with 1,000 different ideas, and the automated convenience store, popular in Japan and Belgium, was one of the two finalists. The automated vending team, then going by he brand name Tik-Tok Easy Shop and later named redbox, selected objet design to design, prototype, and fabricate their first series of automated convenience stores that were field tested in Washington, DC and Maryland. akire design teamed with objet in order to provide McDonald's with user interface graphics, and advertising graphics for the venture. McDonald's and their partners sold off the BigBox portion of the project (the convenience store) and held on to the movie rental kiosk part, which is now up and running throughout the US. New Zealand’s VTL Group Limited acquired the BigBox portion of the project, redeveloped it as Shop24, and is now in the process of bringing the unit back to the US. Okay so my brother wanted to go to redbox and get Dinner for Schmucks, but they didn't have it. So we ended up getting Inception. My brother had seen it but I hadn't. It was good to have some body to tell me what was going on, because otherwise I would have been lost in the first twenty minutes. I love redbox, I mean come one dvds for a dollar, it can't get better than that.
