Blue Zone Reminders

*    It only takes one person not following the rules to create an unsafe situation and to add a great deal of extra time and frustration to everyone's day. Don't be that person!

*    Slow down, hang up, and please be patient! The line may look long, but it moves quickly (when everyone cooperates!)

*    Tell your child when you plan to pick them up in the Blue Zone so they can be looking for your car; if you have more than one child have them wait together.

*    Be sure that everyone who picks up or drops off your child - including babysitters, grandparents, friends - knows how to use the Blue Zone.  Give them a copy of the Burr Blue Zone Guide and the Burr Traffic Map (you can download additional copies on the Downloads page.)

*    Children must be able to buckle and unbuckle their seatbelts and open and close the car door by themselves in order for you to use the Blue Zone.  Teach your children to buckle and unbuckle their own seatbelts – even kids in booster seats can do it! Practice on the weekend - it will give your child a sense of accomplishment and independence. If you have older children, have them help the younger ones until they've mastered it.

*    Drivers cannot get out of their cars in the Blue Zone. If your child is unable to do his/her seatbelt, or unable to open the door (if the “child safety locks” are enabled), or if they need assistance with their "stuff", please park (in a legal spot) so you can get out and help them.

School Zone Reminders

*    NEVER drop off or pick up your child from a traffic lane – only from the Blue Zone or a legal parking space.

*    Kids must always use crosswalks – even with an adult!

*    Please park legally.  If the sign says “No Parking” or if there is a yellow curb – you can’t park (or wait!) in that area.  In the "Live Parking Only" area (in the afternoon) you may not get out of your car - you must be ready to pull forward.

*    Never park in front of the fire hydrant – even for a minute.

*    There is no parking (or turning around) in the Faculty/Staff or the BCAP lots.

*    Please – no U-turns or turning around in driveways. U-turns snarl traffic and are dangerous for pedestrians and other drivers. When you back out of a driveway you may not see children on the sidewalk. Going around the block may add 5 minutes to your trip, but it could save a child’s life!

*    Cars must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights - it's the law.

*    Do not block the crosswalks. It’s very dangerous for the kids – and illegal.
