Now available at the Burges High School Library: Child of Dandelions by Shnaaz Nanji Child of Dandelions is a historical fiction book that recounts the injustices that occurred in 1972 under the rule of Uganda's president Idi Amin. All migrant Indians in Uganda have been given 90 days to leave the country, but Sabine, a 15-year-old Indian, born in Uganda, is also cast out. Having lived lavishly and in comfort all her life, Sabine soon realizes that the Africans' hatred of the Indians is rooted in the discrimination and racism her own people have directed toward the Africans. This story cleverly depicts the many faces of inequality and portrays a historical event that, like the Holocaust, should never be forgotten.
